How can McTimoney Chiropractic help?
Using McTimoney Chiropractic can help to balance the animal’s musculoskeletal system, optimising dynamic flexibility so doing helps the nervous system to work more efficiently, relieves pain and discomfort and improves mobility.
By making the subtle adjustments for which McTimoney Chiropractic is noted, and paying special attention to the spine and pelvis; health, soundness and performance may be restored and maintained. Treatment can be useful for acute, chronic and maintenance reasons.
The McTimoney Chiropractic technique (which I combine with Emmett4Dogs) is a gentle, yet very effective, way of treating musculoskeletal problems in animals. Where appropriate I may also include Low Level Laser Therapy which combines particularly well with Emmett4Dogs in animals with Hip Dysplasia or other conditions leading to Osteoarthritis.
Animals, especially when they are in pain, may be very sensitive, even aggressive; however the very gentle nature of both McTimoney Chiropractic and Emmett4Dogs allows most animals to accept the treatment readily and even to enjoy it.
Whatever your animal’s age, activity, sport or lifestyle, treatment may help to improve quality of life, performance as well as general health and wellbeing.
I provide free puppy checks up to 6 months of age. (Maximum 3 treatments before 6 month birthday). Puppies respond well to Chiropractic at whatever age – even at a few weeks old in my experience puppies that don’t seem to be thriving or feeding well may be helped … with the usual caveat that the Vet has found no medical reason for the problem.
“You must seek consent from your own vet before making an appointment – this is a legal requirement and your vet will remain overall in charge of your pet’s veterinary care”
What treatments do you offer?
McTimoney Chiropractic
The McTimoney technique aligns and balances the animal’s musculoskeletal system. By manipulating any misaligned joints throughout the whole body, with special attention being paid to the spine and pelvis, it helps both to restore and maintain health, soundness and performance.
Emmett Technique & Emmett4Dogs
The Emmett Technique is an effective, gentle, safe and easy to apply muscle release therapy. It is used to address pain and discomfort, improve body movement and restrictions, restore a positive emotional and behavioural state and improve the quality of life. Animals appear more calm and at ease.
Low Level Laser Therapy
Treatment consists of using a noiseless, discomfort free form of light directed precisely at the area requiring treatment.
Low Level Laser Therapy can be used for many conditions in animals. It may be used to assist in the healing of wounds, for some bone conditions and also muscle, ligament and tendon problems.
Appropriately used Low Level Laser Therapy is yet another way to obtain effective, painless, non-invasive treatment for some of the problems which may be used in our small animals.
How can I tell if my animal needs Chiropractic
All animals may suffer from back, neck, pelvic or other musculoskeletal problems at some stage of their lives. Like us, they may benefit from Chiropractic care. Whatever the age of your pet its level of activity or sport; Chiropractic and Emmett Therapy may well improve the comfort and performance of your animal.
Pain is not always the first indicator that Chiropractic help may be helpful. Here are some typical signs that your animal may benefit from McTimoney Chiropractic or other therapies:
Lameness or limb dragging
Reluctance to exercise enthusiastically, jump into the car or climb stairs.
Uneven gait
Changes or deterioration in performance, behaviour or temperament
Stiffness or pain after exercise
Absence of resolution using conventional methods
Signs of discomfort when back is stroked
What can be expected from the 1st session?
I will take a full case history with details of clinical history, life-style and previous injury or accidents. Where practicable all dogs are placed on the Matscan to obtain a recording of weightbearing through each leg.
The whole animal will be treated, not just the region of pain, using the swift, precise and gentle technique for which both McTimoney and Emmett4Dogs are well known and which appear to be exceptionally well tolerated by most animals.
I will also give advice on aftercare for your animal and arrange for further appointments as needed.
Generally speaking (depending upon the nature of the problem) a minimum of three treatments will be advised; the first two with a week between with a follow up about two weeks’ later.
The treatment plan is individually designed and will depend upon:
- Age & general level of fitness of your animal
- Extent and duration of the problem
- Lifestyle/work regime
