Chiropractic for People
Suitable for people of all ages and conditions, patients can self refer
How can McTimoney Chiropractic help?
McTimoney Chiropractic is suitable for people of all ages and is proven to be effective in most conditions. Joint problems and pain can occur for many reasons and the methods I use can not only be used to identify and treat existing problems but also flag areas of concern for possible future joint issues.
I am also qualified as an Emmett practitioner and I find combining McTimoney Chiropractic with Emmett is a particularly effective way of providing beneficial treatment for most patients.
“Chiropractic also helps the nervous system to work more efficiently, relieves pain and improves mobility”
What treatments do you offer?
McTimoney Chiropractic
McTimoney Chiropractic was developed in the 1950’s/60’s by Englishman, John McTimoney. This method is recognised as being an effective whole body approach to chiropractic care which does not involve cavitation (popping or clicking sensation) of either single or groups of joints.
McTimoney Chiropractors strive for optimal health by treating the entire body (not just the area of pain and discomfort) using the light, fast and dextrous adjustments for which McTimoney Chiropractic technique is famous.
Chiropractors are regarded as “Primary Care Providers” which means human patients do not need referral from their G.P.
Emmett Technique
The Emmett Technique is a unique form of body relaxation therapy involving the application of light finger pressure at specific points. It is based on the belief that light touch can trigger a relaxation response in the soft tissues of the body, and that the therapist may thereby help relieve feelings of tension. Many people find they feel more at ease within their body and their emotional well being is enhanced.
Emmett is truly a complementary therapy. It may be applied in isolation but it also combines easily with all other bodywork and exercise specialities such as massage, chiropractic, physiotherapy, Bowen therapy, craniosacral therapy, yoga, Pilates and personal training as some typical examples.
Low Level Laser Therapy
Treatment consists of using a noiseless, discomfort free form of light directed precisely at the area requiring treatment.
Low Level Laser Therapy can be used for many conditions. It is used to assist in the healing of wounds, for some bone conditions and also muscle, ligament and tendon problems.
Appropriately used Low Level Laser Therapy is yet another way to obtain effective, painless, non-invasive treatment.
When is Chiropractic Appropriate?
Joint and skeletal alignment problems with or without discomfort can develop for many reasons including:
Car & Sporting Accidents
Falls
Stress
Poor Posture and/or gait problems
Incorrect lifting and/or twisting movements
The gentle nature of the McTimoney Chiropractic technique makes it well tolerated by people of all ages. It is comfortable to receive and is proven to be effective in treating the following conditions:
Back, neck & shoulder pain
Pain, discomfort and stiffness in joints
Muscular aches/pains
Sports Injuries
Arthritic pain
Migraine
What can I expect from the first appointment?
The first appointment is generally 90 minutes. Before treatment a full history must be taken, general health assessed, and previous and existing conditions evaluated.
Appropriate tests may also be performed to identify the cause of the problem and to ascertain that Chiropractic is appropriate and safe for the presenting condition.
I will also give guidance on what can be achieved and advise a treatment plan. Follow up appointments are usually around 40 minutes.
How many sessions will be needed?
Chiropractic treatment is individually tailored depending on the presenting condition and factors such as:
- Age
- Extent and duration of problem
- General levels of fitness and lifestyle
- Stress levels
Generally speaking between 3 – 6 sessions for straight forward problems. For chronic conditions a follow-up maintenance programme is often advisable.
Free Spine & Pelvis Check
Pelvic and Spinal misalignments, at least initially, do not necessarily trigger chronic pain responses so these checks are very helpful for the “Keep Fitters” and serious sportspeople and may well flag up the need to take action before chronic problems become apparent.
This will take around 30 minutes when I can check pelvic & spinal alignment, explain my findings and discuss how Chiropractic with Emmett could help – not only with pain but also improve performance!
There is no obligation to book further appointments.
